A New {Milk Paint} Buffet

Oh friends, do I have a gorgeous piece of furniture to share with you today!

I had been looking for a buffet to place in the alcove of our dining room, across from the church pew and off the kitchen.

I was telling Abbe about my hunt and what I had in mind. Abbe is none other than Abbe Doll of All Dolled Up. She owns The Cottage Collective, the shop I'm a part of, and is an expert furniture painter. In fact, she works for Miss Mustard Seed herself. She's the National Primary Educator for Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint, as well as working for the paint's parent company, Homestead House. When you email MMS Milk Paint with a question, Abbe will be the one to respond to you : ) I am blessed to be able to work with her and learn from her creativity!

Well, after describing what I had in mind, she found this gorgeous piece on Craigslist for me. It was cherry stained to begin with, and she was a total saint and stripped the whole thing and got it to be pure white.

It's finished in Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint in Ironstone, the pure white in her line. The top is stained a rich brown, and it has the original oval hardware, which I adore.

I love the lines and the clean yet vintage feel to the piece. It goes in the space perfectly.

Here you can see how the buffet relates to the rest of the room. The dining space is to the right in this picture.

Mmmm that hardware and detailing gets me every time!

I love this shot of the entire dining area. I'm standing in the corner of the room, so you can see how the dining table, shelving, pew, buffet and kitchen are laid out. The layout of our home is what sold us!

These alabaster lamps were at the shop, but I knew they would be perfect on the new buffet! Plus, alabaster lamps are one of those things no one in Wichita really appreciates the value of : ) I had $150 on the pair, even though I've seen them go for $250 a piece online. Things like that don't sell in good 'ole Kansas very well though haha! I brought home a bunch of different lamp shades for them and ended up with these. They are not completely perfect but I like them well enough. The mirror is actually for our guest bath but it worked perfectly to style the buffet for now. I think I would actually like a vintage leaded glass window to hang here, but we shall see what I find.

I also wanted to show you my latest flea market score - this great antique farm table! I got it for just $85 and it is just what I was envisioning for the nook in our kitchen. I do plan to paint the legs white, oil the top wood and perhaps even remove the leaves so it can be used more as a desk. But the lines, legs and original castors are all so charming!

I'm debating a lot about what to do on the wall behind it, but I moved an old door in here for now. I envision it functioning as a drop spot and office, since it's right off the garage entrance and in the kitchen. A place to drop bags, pay bills, stay organized. We'll see how it turns out!

Love those legs! I feel bad painting them because the patina is amazing on the original paint, but it's a very yellow color and I really want true white. I also noticed that Miss Mustard Seed painted the legs on the farm table currently in her  dining room even though it had great original blue paint, so I figure if she can do it, I can do it!

Always so much going on around here! I am so loving being a home owner and finding unique pieces to turn our house into a home. Thanks so much for reading along!

  1. What a gorgeous piece! Love the dark stained top contrasting with the white.

  2. Love your new pieces!!

  3. Can I ask which flea market you found the table at? I'm in Wichita too and somehow keep missing those great pieces (especially on craigslist). Found a few, but not often. Both your pieces are gorgeous!! I'm jealous a bit cuz we've been looking for a piece just like your buffet to paint in MMS Apron Strings for my daughter's room. Haven't scored one yet... oh well, the hunt continues! :)

  4. That buffet is a beauty! Enjoy her!

  5. I love the crispness of the white. Great job girl! {ChicByTab}
