Christmas Home Tour 2020: Living Room

A lot has changed since the last time I shared this space here on the blog! We finally splurged on a Samsung Frame TV and could rearrange the living room layout since we were no longer needing to work around a TV being on the left cabinet. It feels like a completely different room! And what better time to debut it than at Christmas?

For artwork on the TV I chose this gorgeous neutral abstract art from Juniper Print Shop. I layered my favorite eucalyptus garland with a bit of fresh pine and cedar, and added bottle brush trees in neutral hues for a simple mantel. Our velvet stockings are always a favorite and this year I dressed them up with taupe silk ribbon and gray velvet ribbon (both from Hobby Lobby, similar here) as well as some tiny brass bells. I just love this look!

This might be one of my favorite views, with our tree in its new spot in the corner. Also I love being able to style the now-open console with some leaning art and accessories - a happy accident as I was going to put another shelf there to fill the opening left by the old TV, but it was out of stock. I actually love the look and think I'll leave it this way.

I hung a small boxwood wreath over some of my favorite abstract art, and added in a wooden bell and vase of fresh pine branches for simple Christmas touches.

I'm still so happy with our new coffee table I found at Home Goods this summer. I added my favorite bust vase filled with pine and a few tabletop bells and trees.

I'm especially loving this winter print (below) from a new shop I found called North Prints - they have the most gorgeous selection!

This room truly feels so grand and special this year! I'm so happy we made the switch and all the festive details are just the icing on the cake!

Little Boys Gift Guide: Christmas 2020

I have to admit, I think the options for little boy clothes and toys have come a long way just in the last couple of years. It was difficult to find classic boy toys and items in light blue when I was expecting Evan, but I'm happy to see the options are growing. I've curated a few favorite finds that will be perfect for gifting the little man in your life this season. For even more ideas, be sure to check out last year's boy gift guide, as almost all of those items are still available!

Play Tunnel - we have one of these and it's endless fun for crawlers on up. And I love that it collapses for easy storage.

Wood Sorter Truck - another one we have and love.

Toy Guitar - Both my kids use our wood toy guitar on a daily basis. Especially great if your little loves music!

Toy Train - I love that this train has both blocks for stacking and a pull along feature. I've been surprised to see that with both my kids, pull along toys have been a favorite from the time they could walk through preschool. A classic for a reason!

Wooden Mixer - Our little chef loves to play kitchen and restaurant just as much as his sister!

Ice Cream Truck Tent - such a fun play tent! I especially love things like this for the winter months when we can't be outdoors as often.

Balance Bike - Every little boy needs a balance bike, and this one has a great retro look!

Little Brother Mouse - Maileg mice are just the sweetest - a great stocking stuffer!

Rattan Stick Horse - Another classic toy I'm surprised my kids play with so much, but they really love.

Race Car - What little boy doesn't love a race car to drive around imaginary roads?!

Block Sorter - Another take on the sorter truck, this one is a pullalong too.

Wood Wagon - I feel like a little wood wagon is the boy version of a baby doll stroller - so great for hauling things around the house.

Wood Tool Set - We have a really similar one to this and it's a favorite!

Dinosaur Puzzle - Is your little boy as obsessed with dinosaurs as mine is?

Large Blocks - We have these as well and they are so sweet in a nursery or boys room

Duffel Bag - Perfect for overnight trips, and it can be personalized.

Little Girl Gift Guide: Christmas 2020

It's here! The first gift guide of the season! This is seriously one of my favorite things to do every year – round up some special and unique goodies to help you in your holiday gifting. The kids guides have really become my favorite, and I know just how special it is to make magic this time of year is for little ones. Here are my 2020 picks for the little girls in your life (and if you need more ideas, see last year's guide here).

Dollhouse - this is a bit of a splurge (though honestly not as expensive as some I saw!) but it's such a classic, beautiful house that would be an heirloom piece your daughter can pass down. So special!

Star Bracelets - my daughter just loves anything with sparkles and glitter and these bracelets are a fun nod to that, perfect as a stocking stuffer.

Tulle Cape - such a whimsical dress up piece!

Sequin Crown - pair it with the cape for an afternoon of playing princess.

Star Wand - and no dress up outfit is complete without a magic wand!

Bow Hair Ties - I love dressing up Lexie's ponytails with a sweet bow.

Tea Set - We'll be getting this one for L this year, as she's graduated past her metal set to real ceramic. I love the sweet wicker carrying case and classic pink flowers.

Claris Book - I love this story about a chic Parisian mouse!

Ballerina Doll - such a beautiful keepsake doll that will become a best friend.

Bow Backpack - This comes in tons of colors and the little bow detail is so sweet.

Pink Bike - We bought this bike for Lexie this summer and it's just as pretty as it is fun to ride. Looks similar to other classic bikes but at a better price point.

Ice Cream Stand - So fun to play ice cream shop!

Elsie Glad Dreams Coat and Book - You've heard me talk about Bunnies By the Bay before, one of my absolute favorite kids brands, so I of course had to include them. We have the original Elsie doll and love her! This version is so fun for winter!

Wood Play House - I have my eye on this really well priced backyard play house! I've always wanted one to make over but since I'm not very good at DIY projects I haven't wanted to tackle painting one. I think this one is so pretty as-is and I can't believe the price!

Rattan Kitchen - I just can't get over how unique this is! It would be the icing on the cake in a darling playroom. I just love it and so would littles!

Pink Scooter - How fun is this? Well priced too, compared to many I've seen.

Ballerina Mouse - This precious mouse comes with her own tutu and ballet studio.

An Elegant Frozen Birthday Party

One of my favorite things to do is throw very special birthday parties for my kids. As Lexie has gotten older she of course has more of an opinion on the themes of her party. So while I might not have chosen it, her five year old heart just wanted an Anna and Elsa Frozen themed party. And her birthday girl wish was my command!

I did my best to make it feel like a frosted wonderland (and a little less cheesy charter-y) and I think she loved it!

I always try to make the dessert table the focal point, so for this one I combined this stand up castle with a balloon garland in the party colors for tons of visual impact.

As always, my incredibly talented mother-in-law made all the treats. The two-tiered cake was covered in fondant snowflakes, topped with white rock candy and adorned with Lexie's favorite Anna, Elsa and Olaf dolls.

We wrapped the cupcakes in these gorgeous snowflake wrappers and topped them with silhouettes of Anna and Elsa (I love a silhouette and thought these were a classy nod to the characters).

The snowflake cookies were seriously so gorgeous and delicious. It's hard to tell in many of the photos, but above you can see I layered the table with iridescent wrapping paper (found at the Dollar Tree of all places) which really made a pretty backdrop for all the treats. I also layered in large snowflakes and faux snow, also from the Dollar Tree.

Rock candy and mini snowflake wands were fun details that carried through the theme.

I couldn't believe she even put the Frozen logo on the cookies!

For the kids table I used purple iridescent wrapping paper as a runner and then layered on snowflake plates and starburst plates, Frozen napkins, iridescent cups and more rock candy.

Of course you have to do some twirling if you're in an Elsa dress!

I'll be so sad when my kids get too big for a kids table at parties - I love decorating their tiny little table just for them and their friends. We have this table and use my mom's Pottery Barn one too to add extra seating.

I tied graphics from the invitations onto each treat bag, which were filled with Frozen goodies like stickers, play dough, crowns and even an iridescent sucker.

I narrowed down a few invitations to pick from and then let Lexie choose the invites. She chose these beautiful pale purple Elsa invitations.

I also hung these snowflakes and pretty iridescent stars above the kids table, which made the room feel so magical.

The kids had the best time decorating snowflakes with paint, sparkly snow and stickers. I'm always amazed how much little ones love projects like this - such a hit!

The party was nothing short of magical! Happy fifth birthday baby girl!
