Our sweet Evan boy (who everyone calls Evie) turned one! He’s all things boy – adventurous, ornery and sweet. I wanted to give him a classic little boy birthday party. He’s only little once, and we have the rest of his life for Spiderman and baseball parties, but I wanted to celebrate his babyhood before it was gone.
I styled the party similar to his nursery – lots of blue and white, seersucker, stripes and his monogram to make it personal.
I always love to include a focal point for every party and the wood monogram that’s usually above his crib worked great to go above the dessert table (it’s the 30″).
My mother-in-law made all the treats, as she does for all our parties, and they were so darling! If you’re local, let me know if you’d like her contact info – she has a business called Sweet Endings making all sorts of desserts that are truly amazing!
I also found these blue gingham plates in the dollar spot, which were perfect for the cookies and pinwheels.
The cute little birthday boy cake topper was a favorite touch because we found it at the most darling kids boutique while we were on vacation, which is a sweet memory. I love that we can use it every year.
I can’t believe how amazing these monogram cookies my mother-in-law made turned out! We ordered a custom monogram cookie cutter, but she went above and beyond and used it to cut out fondant for the letters. They were precious!
The rocking horse was a vintage find I painted when I was pregnant with Lexie and has been in both nurseries. (similar here)
For our kids’ parties I love to line up some tiny tables and chairs that are just the right size for all the friends to gather. It’s so much easier for everyone when they have a place to sit that they can get in and out of on their own and it makes all of them feel special.
It’s also a fun way to carry the theme through with individual place settings.
I lined the kids table and dessert table with seersucker fabric, which is one of my favorite things for a summer little boy (he has lots of seersucker in his wardrobe and wore it for the party).
I had been saving this hot air balloon idea for a few years, knowing if we ever had a boy it would be darling! I ordered this netting and large balloon and tied it to one of my baskets and added a one banner. It could not have been any cuter!
I used our mantel to display his monthly photos and dressed it up with a balloon garland. You guys, these are such an easy statement piece! I just ordered this $4 balloon tape and got a few packs of balloons and it was so simple. The garland has holes you just stick the balloons into – easy as can be and such a budget-friendly piece!
I took his photos each month in front of his dresser with a banner that spelled out the month, which is the same thing I did with Lexie. I think it’s such a special way to document how they grow.
I had his silhouette done by this Etsy shop, which also incorporated his monogram again. Having my kids’ silhouettes made is one of my favorite ways to capture their childhoods. This one now hangs in his nursery.
I used the mint julep cups from our wedding eight years ago to hold all the flowers – mostly blue and white hydrangeas, eucalyptus and these delphiniums. I hot glued bow ties from the Target dollar bin to make them fit for a little gentleman.
I used our console table to hold snacks and presents, which made a fun display.
I was surprised how difficult it was to find wrapping paper in light blue. I used this bag and this bag from Target and this paper from Minted. The gray striped paper was from Home Goods and the blue ribbon from Hobby Lobby.
The little gingham snack cups were a sweet Home Goods find.
I designed his invitations myself using the silhouette I had made. If you’re looking for similar options I loved these and these. My favorite toy train also made an appearance from his nursery.
One of the little details I was most excited about was this gingham birthday crown. I just think it’s precious! There are so many accessories and cute things for girls (hello, bows and headbands) and there are so many less options for boys, I was excited to find something special for him to wear on his big day. The seller included this little pennant with my order which I also loved!
of the great things about a July birthday is everyone loves a pool
party! We put out our favorite inflatable pool and water table and the
kids went crazy playing. They could have stayed out there for hours!
up about a dozen of these marble blue play balls for $1.50 each at our local grocery store and
spread them out all over the lawn when the kids went out to play. Then
each one got to take one home as their party favor. It was so fun and
made the backyard feel so festive!
It was such a fun day celebrating our boy! He really is the sweetest and most fun, always giving snuggles and giggling at everything. His first nine months were very challenging for a lot of different reasons, so this party felt like a celebration of his first year and of making it through a challenging year as a family. What a blessing he is!

Good morning friends and happy Monday! Today I’m sharing one of my favorite things to collect: antique butter pats. I have to admit, I went a little nuts buying them at the Sparks flea market, so I have quite a few sets right now. Somehow I managed to find around 5 or 6 different sets while…
Hello friends! Things have been busy busy around here. Since the sale has been over I’ve been working on our house like crazy! Though it may seem our house is furnished, in reality we haven’t even touched the other half of the house with three bedrooms, a bathroom and our master. I’ve made some fun…
If there’s one mantra I’ve always believed, it’s that you can have a beautiful home on a budget. Sometimes I think it feels like a Pinterest-worthy home is out of reach, but that’s just not true. Through all my years of blogging, I’ve really tried to show that you can achieve a gorgeous home without…
