Good morning friends and happy Monday! Today I’m sharing one of my favorite things to collect: antique butter pats. I have to admit, I went a little nuts buying them at the Sparks flea market, so I have quite a few sets right now. Somehow I managed to find around 5 or 6 different sets while I was there and I just couldn’t resist them. So now I have these six at home and 3 or 4 at the shop…I’d say it’s definitely a good start to the collection! Although, as with everything else, I will probably sell most of them. Some are currently for sale in the etsy shop if you like them too.
This set with the blue-gray floral detail is just gorgeous.
I often seem to find little pairs of butter pats. I like to stack mismatched ones all together for a collected look.
I found this set of square ironstone pats at an estate sale yesterday. I love the clean lines.
This set of classic ironstone butter pats is probably the only one I’ll keep. I love their thick rimmed shape. I tend to stash these all over the house to catch things like change and jewelry. They go with everything!
Butter pats have so many uses…really anything you can dream up. I thought I’d share a few ways I use mine.
I often use one or a stack to elevate something small in a vignette. In this case a butter pat highlights a little flower frog in a garden vignette in my living room.
I also like to use butter pats as spoon rests, especially with my morning coffee. The spot where I prepare my coffee is a butcher block counter and I don’t want to stain it, so I usually set out a little butter pat to rest my spoon on.
Catching jewelry is probably the way I use butter pats most. Actually I use lots of vintage finds to catch jewelry because I am notorious for leaving earrings, necklaces and rings all over the house.
This stack is on top of our dresser, along with a vintage silver compote to throw my jewelry in before bed. I also use old soap dishes, silver trays and small pieces of ironstone in the bathroom, by the kitchen sink and on my vanity to corral loose jewelry. That way it’s on display and I don’t lose it!
Do you collect butter pats? Do you use them or put them on display? I’d love to hear your creative uses for them!
{live beautifully}
