DIY Vintage Horse Prints {And Our Guest Bedroom}

Hello friends! Things have been busy busy around here. Since the sale has been over I’ve been working on our house like crazy! Though it may seem our house is furnished, in reality we haven’t even touched the other half of the house with three bedrooms, a bathroom and our master. I’ve made some fun new purchases over the last few weeks and have gotten to finally work on these new spaces. It feels good to be back to decorating!

The other day I saw these gorgeous horse prints at my favorite local {read: expensive} boutique. I absolutely loved the graphic black and white punch they had, but I did not love the price. They were $90 each. So I went online and found them on several websites – for $300 for a set of 6 ($50/each). Still not what I wanted to pay. I’ve made my own vintage printables before, so I figured I could find some similar horse prints and DIY the look I loved.

I downloaded free vintage horse prints online {the ones I used are here here here and here} and turned them black and white. I purchased 11×14 black frames from Hobby Lobby for $7.50 each and popped the prints right in.

I’d say $30 is way better than $300-540! I hung them in our guest bedroom, which is currently a work in progress (forgive the plastic still on the lampshade above – these pictures were taken mid-room styling).

Here is how the room stands now. It is almost impossible to photograph this room well given the small window, so forgive the wonky light/shadows. It’s really coming together! My mother-in-law was kind enough to paint the walls when I was out of town one weekend (they are Silver Fox by Benjamin Moore) and then the room sat empty for several months until I could turn my attention to it.

I already had the bedding from Target, and I found this perfectly coordinating pillow at TJ Maxx the other day.

I’m still on the hunt for a table for this side of the bed, so this is borrowed from the hearth room for now.

This chalk board didn’t sell at the sale, so into the room it went! It’s a handy place to let our guests know what the wireless password is (a necessity in any guest room these days!).

This half of the room is almost complete, and I’m happy with how it’s coming together. The lamp was on clearance from Target, and the black linen shade is also Target but looks just like the ones from Pottery Barn. I picked up the black side table on clearance at TJ Maxx and the picture frame is from Hobby Lobby. I loved the shape but didn’t like its original color, so I painted it a gray and white wash. It may get filled with another vintage printable, we shall see!

I have ordered this fabric for the drapes, which I think is so pretty. It was pricey to have custom drapes made, so I’m going to try my hand at a no-sew pinch pleat idea I found. Hopefully it turns out ok!

I also ordered this lantern pendant to replace the dinky ceiling fan that provides pretty much zero light. I think it will add a nice statement piece as well as clean lines to the space.

The other half of the room doesn’t have much happening just yet. I found this large vintage wicker table at a rummage sale the other day for just $10. It’s probably too big for the room but it serves a purpose for now. I just need to give it a good cleaning, hang the mirror and do some styling, and we’ll be in business!
