Neutral Fall Decorating Ideas
Fall Living Room Tour
Learn how to decorate your home for fall and autumn using neutrals to create a warm, welcoming and cozy feel for autumn.
changes your home can feel layered and inviting for the season. Simple,
neutral fall decor is my favorite way to decorate, because it’s easy to
bring in a few new textures and colors to change the feeling of a space.
Tip 1: Pick a Color Palette
For our fall living room this year,
I wanted to use dusty mauve, creams, taupes and grays in warmer hues. I
repeated these colors throughout the space to help it feel intentional
and cohesive. Whatever palette you choose, remember to stick within your
color scheme, and repeat it periodically. Subtle, warm, softer colors
are a great choice this time of year.
Tip 2: Bring in Autumn Texture
Texture is one of the best ways
to transition your home decor for fall. Texture can be added in so many
ways during this season – through chunky knits and nubby pillows, warm
wood tones, the texture of natural or faux foliage, and even through
unexpected objects like woven baskets, chunky beads and unique candles.
One of my favorite finds this fall have been these real pampas grass stems – they are a great price and are the prettiest mauve-brown hue. I popped them in this gorgeous gray vase and it’s the perfect centerpiece on our coffee table.
Tip 3: Layer, Layer, Layer
In the summer months, I like a
clean, paired back aesthetic. But during the fall I like to layer in
more decor, draping wood beads and decorative links over stacks of
books, layering artwork with warmer tones, adding extra pillows and
plenty of plaid blankets, and including lots of fall foliage. You
still want to ensure everything feels edited, but some extra layers of
decor are warm and welcoming this time of year.
On the coffee table, a woven tray anchors the lighter elements, while new wood chain links echo the same tone and add an additional layer.
Pretty neutral pillows make our couch feel cozy and inviting.
Tip 4: Switch Out Art
I first blogged about it way back in 2017,
so you know my love of printable art runs deep. Changing out artwork
around your home is one easy way to bring a fall mood to your decor. And
it’s very inexpensive to do if you use printable art. Etsy is a treasure trove (linked my favorite shop), and most cost only a few dollars.
I’ve really
enjoyed filling these very inexpensive gold frames (they’re $6, $8 and
$10!) with different art and placing them around the house. Choose art
with warmer tones, including autumn landscapes, botanicals and
portraits.
These simple tips can make a big impact on your home this fall. With
just a few changes it’s easy to bring in warm, neutral fall decor and
create a warm, cozy home for the season.
