This post feels like it’s been such a long time coming! I shared our plans for our son’s nursery way back here, and it’s taken several months to pull everything together. It just goes to show decorating does not happen overnight. Although I am doing better with this one than my daughter’s nursery – I revealed it the day before I was due haha!
For our son’s nursery we wanted a classic, calming neutral space with just a touch of little boy whimsy. I ended up using even more blue than I thought I would, but I love the soft accent it gives.
From the very beginning I envisioned a large traditional monogram above the crib (this one is the 30″). I love what a personal touch it is while making a statement and how well it pairs with the classic Jenny Lind crib.
A lot of the accessories, including the blankets and pillows, were TJ Maxx finds. Our town just doesn’t have much to offer in the way of baby goods (except big chain stores) so I’m always so happy to find more unique items at TJX.
When you walk in the room this is what you see first – the dresser/changing station on the longest wall.
I am so happy with this dresser! It’s large, well made, has classic lines and is such a good price compared to so many pieces of furniture I looked at!
This sweet little blue train from Pottery Barn Kids is one of my favorite things. I had been planning to use it, but by the time I went to purchase it it had been discontinued. Well I called a few stores to see if any had it in stock and one in New York did! Whew! This one is similar (also found here).
I decided to splurge a little (for me) on this white rattan hamper. It was just the look I was going for in here so when I spotted it at Home Goods on clearance I knew it was the perfect thing. Would you believe TJ Maxx online later had the matching small baskets, which I used in the closed and to hold diapers/wipes on the dresser? (similar hamper here, similar baskets here)
You might recognize the glider and rocking horse from our daughter’s nursery. I repainted the horse with chalk paint when I was pregnant with her, but it works well for both genders. (It’s vintage, but here’s a similar one)
The lumbar pillow and tassel blanket were TJ Maxx finds as well.
I’ve gotten SO many questions about these buffalo check curtains when I’ve shared them in Instagram stories. My mom sewed them for me from this fabric from fabric.com. There are also some similar pre-made ones here. I love the pop of pattern they bring to such a neutral space.
The other side of the shelves holds a few favorite books, the soft blocks that were special keepsakes from my daughter, more vintage trophies and my favorite little toy puppy. I wanted everything to be classic, soft and sweet and I think special little things like this really make a nursery feel special.
His closet might just be one of my favorite parts of the room. I love a well-organized closet, especially because ours are open 99% of the time, so I need it to be an extension of the room.
With both my kids I tend to gravitate toward a color palette when choosing their clothes. What can I say, I’m just not a lover of bright colors haha! He’ll mostly be wearing blues, whites and grays and I love more classic fabrics like searsucker, chambray and stripes.
I love using cube storage in kids closets, because when they get older than can choose their own books and toys from the shelves. Plus it offers some display space as well as hidden storage. I have this same system in my daughter’s closet.
This sweet little hat is just perfect for a summer baby. I found the striped baskets at Home Goods and loved the wooden bead detail on the handle.
Another favorite tip is to find toys that are beautiful as well as fun, like this great geometric wooden teether. That way they can double as decor when they’re put away, and your eyes won’t bleed when they’re scattered on your living room floor for three days : )
I wanted to share a little about how we organize baby clothes, but this post is getting so long and photo-heavy I think I’ll do it in a separate post. Here is a peek at his drawers. We us the Ikea Skubb organizers to keep everything neat.
Lots of love definitely went into this sweet space. We can’t wait to meet our little man in about six weeks! Thanks for hanging with me during pregnancy/the newborn phase as blogging has kind of had to take a back seat. I am still on Instagram pretty regularly so be sure to follow me on there for lots of updates if you’re not already!
(I know…so. many. photos. If you’ve made it this far you deserve a prize!)
There were so many beautiful room make overs in this round of the One Room Challenge! Here are a few of my favorites This soft, sophisticated bedroom from The Posh Home This stunning kitchen from The Leslie Style (who basically renovates a whole house every 6 months and kills it every time!). You have to…

Since sharing a few things over on Instagram that I had picked up for Evan, I heard from a ton of mamas that they’d love to see more finds for boys. It’s true that girls are easy to shop for, but finding sweet boy things (without a giant shark or firetruck on them) is a…
